Join Us for the Grand Re-Opening of the 1855 Harris-Kearney Historical House Museum!
After an eagerly awaited 18 months, the Westport Historical Society Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the grand re-opening of the 1855 Harris-Kearney Historical House Museum!
Be among the first to experience the stunning first-floor renovations and enjoy a major exhibit featuring the magnificent oil paintings of local artist R. Greg Summers. His works include interpretations of historic photographs of Westport and Kansas City, as well as some of his newest pieces from this year’s travels.
Explore the introductory exhibit highlighting Westport’s history related to the Steptoe Neighborhood and updated exhibits throughout the museum. The refreshed grounds and newly-planted flower gardens will also be unveiled.
A special highlight of the event will be the dedication of a unique artifact: the wheels and axle from an 1838 Conestoga-style Covered Wagon, generously donated by Cooper Weeks. This artifact, once displayed at the Westport Shopping Center, will now have a permanent home at the museum. Were you there at its original dedication in 1963? We’d love to see your photos and hear your stories!
