We are proud to be the oldest two-story brick residence in Kansas City. Standing in the heart of the historic Westport corridor, the 170-year-old Harris-Kearney House is more than just a building—it’s a living artifact.
Here, we preserve and share the stories, struggles, and spirit of the Great Western Migration era, as well as the diverse histories of Westport’s founders, pioneers, early residents, and the many families who first made this community their home.
It Is More Than Just an Old House
Inside, you’ll find remarkable 19th-century treasures, including the oldest piano in Kansas City—built in 1828—and countless artifacts that bring the past to life. We host school field trips, public programs, and community events, inviting people of all ages to explore how Kansas City was founded, how the West was settled, and how this region grew from those early days. The house is also available for public and private event and not-for-profit organization meetings, and even showers and weddings, keeping it an active part of community life.
